About us

We are the family of Catiana “Cati” Yovanni DeLaPeña. Born on September 15, 2012, Cati brought boldness, faith, and purpose into our lives. She had Down syndrome and showed us the power of inclusion, advocacy, and high expectations for every child.

On June 5, 2019, Cati tragically drowned while at a High Hopes summer camp in Cedar Park, Texas. In response, we founded Live Like Cati to honor her life and protect others.

We successfully helped pass HB59 during the 88th Texas Legislature and continue to advocate for stronger water safety laws across Texas. Through education, hands on training, partnerships, and the distribution of free life jackets, we work to prevent drownings and equip those who care for children with life saving knowledge.

Cati’s legacy drives everything we do.

Kori and John Delapeña

Live Like Cati’s mission is to prevent childhood drowning by increasing access to life-saving water safety education, training summer camp staff, providing free life jackets to children and families, and advancing evidence-based policies that strengthen water safety practices across Texas.
